Welcome to the UCSC Natural Reserve...

The UCSC Campus Natural Reserve is 400 acres of protected natural land on the UC Santa Cruz campus. This land was set aside to preserve the natural communities for teaching, field research and natural history interpretation. These lands are a living library and laboratory.

While exploring the reserve, you will encounter a wide range of geologic formations, ecological communities, and soil types. These areas provide homes for resident and transient faunal species.

Special features include:

  • redwood forest
  • riparian corridors
  • seep zones & springs
  • coastal prairie & mima mounds
  • chapparal communities
  • mixed evergreen forest

We invite you to come and explore this unique area of our campus.
